Course Reserves Purchase Request

In the 2025-26 academic year, the Library is running a one-time program to purchase high-use, high-demand textbooks for Course Reserves. This is part of a strategic initiative to increase student access to course-specific materials at all COCC campuses.

The Library’s Collection Development Policy typically excludes the purchase of textbooks with Library funds, but this special program is an exception for the 2025-26 academic year.

How this special program works and how we’ll spend this funding:

  1. Due to limited funds, our purchases will be limited to required course textbooks.
  2. Requests will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  3. The deadline for requests is April 1st, 2026 or when funding runs out, whichever is first.
  4. Priority will be given to textbooks that
    • serve high enrollment and/or required foundation courses
    • are high-demand (as determined by factors like the number of library uses and requests)
    • are expensive
  5. Multiple copies of a text may be requested depending on demand, availability and cost.

This special program does not impact our usual Course Reserves service, which allows instructors to place their own (or department-provided) copies on Course Reserves in Bend, Redmond, Madras or Prineville.

Our usual Purchase Request form and process remains in place for non-textbook/Course Reserves items which instructors would like to have in the Library’s regular collection in Bend, Redmond, Madras or Prineville.
